Weeknotes 1: oddly satisfying
-
Oh look, I’m copying cool people with this weeknotes thing. Let’s see how long it lasts. I have neither the design skills nor the modern-day CSS etc knowledge to make it look good so it’ll just have to look like this fudged-about standard Jekyll theme for now.

We got the family tummy bug badge. I suppose the novelty of bathing a toddler and washing/making a bed at 1am will wear off eventually but it’s oddly satisfying to sweep around the house at night cleaning up an “accident”. It didn’t feel quite so satisfying to spend the night awake with stomach cramps a couple of days later, though.

We spent a few days in Zürich seeing friends. Going anywhere with two small kids is inevitably a lot of work but we managed to visit a lot of people and had a lot of fun.

As I rushed about trying to find the last of our stuff before the taxi to the airport arrived I managed to kick an open door with my little toe. It hurt a considerable amount and looked to be sticking out at a funny angle. After a few hours it (and a lot of surrounding foot) was red and swollen which, according to the nash, suggests it’s broken. On their advice I also did nothing about it and hope it will just fix itself over time. Taping it to its neighbour doesn’t seem to help with discomfort but it at least protects it from bumps a bit. I needn’t have dragged my running shoes with me on this trip.

Before leaving I set up a couple of Eufy 2C Pro cameras at home. I feel a bit uncomfortable that we “need” surveillance for many reasons but it’s useful to be notified if anything untoward is happening and might provide a bit of a deterrent value. They seem to work quite well and I’m glad not to have to fork out a considerable monthly cloud subscription fee.
