Weeknotes 36: dad bod

Little L is sick again. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised given everyone says young kids are basically always either sick now or have been recently sick (like in Dublin, it’s either raining or has recently rained, as I learned living there) but knowing that doesn’t make it better. She has some kind of throat/ear infection that will hopefully clear up in a couple of days.
Update, after a couple of days: now she has antibiotics. This feels a bit bad given there’s a shortage of lots of drugs including amoxycillin — which little L was prescribed — across Europe. That said, we’d been giving her the maximum doses of paracetamol and ibuprofen for 3 straight days while we waited for improvement so I guess escalation was reasonable.
Talking of paracetamol and ibuprofen: I tried to look at the BNF to see if there was any extra information on dosage but the BNF is not accessible from outside the UK. Presumably this makes sense to someone. 🤷♂️

Big L’s nursery is going pretty well. I was worried we were stuck taking her for a morning while we worked from the staff room until she got upset and wanted to go home but halfway through the week we bit the bullet and took her there before breakfast and picked her up at 4pm. So far she’s doing great — eating well, playing, even taking a nap, which she has more or less given up at home. I hope it continues.
I’ve been taking her there on the “superbike”, as big L calls it. It’s really fun to talk to her about things on the way and cheaper than the bus (when you ignore the outrageous purchase price, so not really cheaper).

I managed a 12km long run along with a couple of short midweek jobbers. The long one was not particularly fun as I had slept terribly (see above) and for a few weeks I’ve been having a more asthma trouble than any time in the previous couple of decades. It’s getting to the point where the distances are substantial enough that I can encircle quite a chunk of Zürich. This is a small thrill on one hand but a routefinding chore on the other.

I’ve been managing to go to the office a few days each week. This is obviously good for meeting teammates etc and the healthy lunches go some way towards offsetting the otherwise rubbish diet I’m only just managing to inhale at the moment. This plus the running are the only things that are keeping the dad bod at bay at the moment.
