Weeknotes 44: down the sink
-
My mood is still not great. Not really sure why.
-
A week or two ago I got my sourdough starter out of the fridge with the ambituous goal of baking some bread. Baking was easy before because I could start anywhen and bake on any day, but now that I have a job I have to time things to make the dough on Saturday and bake it on Sunday. Doable but certainly less easy.
For some reason I absolutely loathe feeding my starter. It takes just a few minutes but I always procrastinate and find something else to do. I managed a run of a few days’ of feeding before I started missing days and then, on Sunday, I looked at it after a few warm days without food and saw a spot of mould growing. It went down the sink.
I suppose I’m a tiny bit sad that my starter of several years is gone but I’m mostly relieved that I don’t have any pressure to keep another thing alive and/or make bread.

I (re)started German lessons and pretty quickly remembered how hard it is.
Meamwhile, big L informed me that house is die Hausen in German, and roof is die Roofen, and so on. I joke but she is probably going to know more than me within a year.
-
Little L moved from two naps to one. It’s a tricky transition as really she could have done with one and a half naps but that’s not physically possible unfortunately. Anyway, she’s had some good nights of sleep and now goes to bed a bit earlier so it’s mostly positive at this point.

Speaking of naps, at work there is a room with low light and a few couch type things in little tents. I took a couple of 15 minute after lunch naps there this week and they were glorious. Definitely perked me up for afternoon of trying to work out what it is that I’m supposed to do there.

I have been trying to increase my weekly running volume. 31km this week and my knee is doing okay, so that’s encouraging.
