Weeknotes 2: Papi is beautiful

I’m glad that Boris is going but I don’t have much hope in whoever replaces him being less bad. I guess they might at least be less of an embarrassment. Unless it’s Jacob Rees-Mogg, of course.

We took the train from Zürich to Monza to stay with the in-laws. The train is brilliant: it takes about 3.5 hours (vs 4-7 by road), the scenery is great and the nerd in me still feels a bit excited about going through the Gotthard and Ceneri Base Tunnels. Also! It passes the curiosity that is Campione d’Italia, an Italian exclave near the Swiss-Italian border. The firemen are Swiss! The post is delivered by Poste Italiane! The electricity is Italian! Salaries are paid in Francs! What a place. 🤯
(This picture is actually from a trip from a few years ago but you get the idea.)

Italy is hot. It has been 30°C or above every day. I feel like this wasn’t a problem for me in the past but it is becoming more of a challenge. We’re coping with the help of many fans and careful management of windows and shutters but it does not bode well for the future.

My toe is still maybe broken so I am reduced to using the in-laws’ elliptical machine for exercise. It’s as miserable as it sounds.

Kiddo#1 had a bit of a cold and was unusually affectionate: “Papi is beautiful” 😍 (I’m not sure how she ended up calling me Papi but that’s my name and I like it.)
