• I did some interviews. Some feel like they went well, others felt like they went very badly. I guess I’ll find out what they average to soon.

  • I also did an at-home “build a thingy on a VPS in 48 hours” challenge for a different job. Building the thingy was mostly okay, though of the 48 wall clock hours assigned to me not many were left once sleeping, eating, and handling children were accounted for. I also await feedback on this.

I used Google’s Compute Engine for the VPS because I had a vague memory of getting the first $300 or something of spending per month free. It worked fine — I got a VPS up and running — but wow Google Cloud Console is rough. It’s really slow, it’s clunky to navigate, and it looks very unpolished. There’s misaligned/overlapping things, arbitrarily large or small text, unclear presentation and all sorts of other eye ache. Some of it is probably down to how complicated offering cloud services is but still, I’m surprised Google hasn’t done better.

I got a bill for 91p so my memory of a $300 credit (which sounds suspiciously generous, now that I think about it) is obviously wrong.

  • Our oldest daughter has abbreviated Papi to “Pap”. Whatchyu doing, Pap?

  • Last week the toddler (L1) had a cold, this week the baby (L2) has it. Poor little bean. Nevertheless she put on a brave face and tolerated a 15 minute ride up the road to Saturday’s Littleton and Harestock Show. We had an ice cream and L1 went on a carousel thing (progression of faces during ride: 😀 → 🤔 → 🙁 → 😫). Then we changed some nappies and went home. Rock and roll.

  • It’s September and to celebrate it being Not Summer my fingertips are already starting to split. I’m supergluing them back together and expect to continue doing this until next May.
